UUCA SPONSORS BUS TO Moral Monday JULY 29 – To purchase a bus ticket, go to uuasheville.org. Tickets are $20.  Bus loads at 10am on Monday, July 29 at Innsbruck Mall, 85 Tunnel Road.  Plan on being back in Asheville at around 12:30am.  Bring lunch, water and comfortable shoes.  FMI  Tom Dessereau

MOUNTAIN MORAL MONDAY – August 5th – 5pm to 6:30pm.  Moral Monday comes to Asheville in front of City Hall.  Rev. Dr. William H. Barber, leader of the NAACP Moral Monday effort is the keynote speaker.  Volunteers needed to help with clean up, set up and crowd control.   This is the first of the NAACP’s efforts to bring Moral Monday to local communities.  Let’s make in big!  FMI contact Assistant Minister Lisa Bovee-Kemper

UU Legislative Ministry – We are active participants in the development of a UU Legislative Ministry that will bring together the social justice efforts of all UU congregations in North Carolina.  We are looking for congregants who can follow legislation on the environment, reproductive rights, the death penalty, hunger, education, homelessness, immigration, voter rights, etc.  FMI contact Tom Dessereau

Social Justice Movie Night – August 9 – PASSIONATE POLITICS brings Charlotte Bunch’s story to life, from idealistic young civil rights organizer to lesbian activist, to internationally-recognized leader of a campaign to put women’s rights, front and center, on the global human rights agenda. Charlotte has been both a product and creator of her times: every chapter in her life is a chapter in the story of modern feminist activism, from its roots in the 1960′s struggles for social justice to international campaigns against gender-based violence today. Bring Your Garden Produce THIS SUNDAY!  Collection of fresh produce and herbs which will continue through frost. Bring your produce to the back of Sandburg Hall (the ESJM table) where it will be collected and transported to Catholic Social Charities. FMI contact Judy Mattox.

Summer Feeding Programs for Children:  Volunteers Needed – We have an opportunity to help feed children out of school this summer who have no free and reduced lunch program and no MANNA backpack program.  Please volunteer to take one lunch shift or more; a couple of days, or each Monday, etc.

1st Program: Location: Woodridge Housing in the Emma School area Dates: June 17-August 9, Mondays through Fridays Time: 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM

2nd Program: Location: Leicester Elementary School  Dates: Tuesdays through Thursdays only:  July 23-25; July 30-August 1.  Time: 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM

Loving Food Resources – We will not be collecting food for Manna packs until the fall when school resumes. Instead items can be donated to Loving Food Resources, who provides basic needs to people living with HIV/AIDS through food, health, and personal care items. A box is located for that purpose in the foyer at UUCA.
